Siesta Key Association Board Meeting Minutes July 3, 2008 CALL TO ORDER: MINUTES – Joyce Kouba: The June minutes were approved. TREASURER'S REPORT – Bob Tripp: The Treasurer's Report was approved. SHERIFF'S REPORT – Sgt. Chad McDonald: No report PUBLIC/AUDIENCE COMMENT – 7 Guests AD HOC COMMITTEE REPORTS: Midnight Pass – Bob Waechter: The recent Herald Tribune article was essentially accurate. Ron Flynn stated that it did not include SKA or other organizations, which support opening Midnight Pass and recommended sending a letter to the Tribune indicating SKA's support for the project. Paul van Deventer suggested this issue should be on the upcoming membership survey. Turtle Beach – Ron Flynn: No Report. Inlet Management – Peter van Roekens: Big Pass continues to provide 5.5 ft. at MLLW on the route noted on the Sarasota Yacht Club site. All the marks are in place as Mike Solum has replaced BP2. There is some shoaling near BP5 & BP7 and the Boaters- Coalition has asked Mike to move these markers in closer to reduce the width of the marked channel. http://www.sarasotayachtclub.org/fw/main/Big_Pass_Information-405.html Adopt-A-Road – Peter van Roekens: The pickup went fairly well although it would have been nice to have seen a few more SKA directors there. The Ocean Blvd. SKA/SKVA Adopt-a-Road on 24 May picked up 13 bags of trash. The following people made it all possible: from SKA - Joyce Kouba, Bob Tripp, Peter van Roekens; from SKVA - Denise McDonald & Pat Richmond (SunTrust), Cory & Brittney Ogg (friends of Denise), Troy, Julie, Alexa & Jamison Syprett (Daiquiri Deck/Speakeasy), Mark Smith (Smith Architects); from Siesta Key Chamber of Commerce - Charlie Valentine. Special thanks toTom and Kay Kouvatos for the volunteer breakfasts at the Village Cafe. The next pickup will be in the fall. Code Enforcement – Gayle Wardner:The Chain link fence is still on Higel Avenue and the weeds are still on Midnight Pass. "No outlet" signs on south Midnight Pass have been moved for better visibility. Gayle and Ann will contact the County person in charge of the mowing contract. Parking – Bob Schennum:The Beach Club and Hub have parking attendants. The Planning Commission will consider Village parking August 7. The issue should be bought to the BCC in September. STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS: Nominating/Board Development – Paul van Deventer: No report. Zoning – Lourdes Ramirez:Flood plane ordinance public hearing is July 8. Zoning code update hearing is July 23. The public may submit comments prior to the hearing. The Farmer's Market ordinance was passed. The hearing for the Siesta Farmer's Market permit is July 23. Coastal setback is continued to August 26 at 9 a.m. Change in regulation on hardening is being proposed. Membership – Deet Jonker: No report. OLD BUSINESS: The deposition has been postponed to July 22nd. NEW BUSINESS: 1) A Siesta Key citizen is starting a campaign to stop offshore drilling. SKA will not take a position on this issue. 2) Siesta Key Fire & Rescue requested a donation for sonar equipment. Commissioner Patterson will find out whether the County already has one available. 3) SKA will donate $150 to the fireworks campaign. 4) A Director's Workshop will be held on July 22 to formulate questions for a member survey.
