Siesta Key Association Current Projects and Goals for 2008

• Ensure the County stops the illegal practice of allowing duplexes on undersized lots on Siesta Key, and if necessary engage legal council to represent SKA.
• Ensure the County does not weaken our Siesta Key Overlay district standards in the next Zoning Code update. Lobby the County to put in additional protections for our neighborhoods. Continue to lobby against any increased density and intensity.
• Continue our efforts for zoning changes and Comprehensive Plan amendments to improve conditions for Siesta Key residents and neighborhoods. Our efforts are on-going and we are ever-vigilant.
• Work with County personnel to improve the collection of Beach Road storm water at the beach retention pond and to disperse overflow away from the public beach ensuring the quality of gulf water.
• Monitor the County Parks Department plans for Turtle Beach Park Improvements. SKA is against RV parking but supports improved recreational and greater boat launching facilities.
• Currently working with County to develop plans for Siesta Key Public Beach Park Improvement Project.
• Work with County to improve beach and dune grooming practices to prevent erosion and storm water.
• Ensure that our beaches are not negatively impacted by any new plan to dredge Big Pass.
• Obtain additional grants to beautify and improve Siesta Key.
• Continue project to improve and enforce newspaper rack clutter around the Key.
• Continue to support the reopening of Midnight Pass.
• Work with the County to protect Siesta Key's natural environment and mangroves from destruction as well as other native Florida plants on County property.
• Continue to seek traffic congestion relief during season.
• Monitor County study and possibility of paid parking at Siesta Key Beach.
