Siesta Key Association Contributions 2005
- Assisted in acquiring new navigation markers for the Gulf side of Big Pass.
- Active sponsor of yearly Town Meeting on hurricane preparedness.
- Sponsored community events such as the 4th of July Fireworks Extravaganza, Hurricane Preparedness Seminar and Summer Beach Runs.
- Worked with county to redesign and plant Beach Road median and Stickney Point entrance to Key. Purchased new Siesta Key Welcome sign.
- Instrumental in the county's planting of new landscaping and the beautification of our island medians.
- Received county grants for dog stations, park benches and ash cans along Midnight Pass Road.
- Adopted two roads on Siesta Key (Ocean and South Midnight Pass) for litter pick up.
- Worked with county to improve and enforce Canopy Road Protection Ordinance.
- Worked with county to improve Mangrove protection, enforcement and education.
- Instrumental in the development and passage of Siesta Key Zoning Overlay District ensuring orderly, environmentally sound and regulated growth (a plan for the future).
- Association Directors actively worked with county staff for almost two years to ensure that the new County Zoning Code enacted October 2003 protected and enhanced the Siesta Key Zoning Overlay District. New zoning language was added to Siesta Key Overlay District to prevent converting single family homes and duplexes into illegal multiple rental units.
- We successfully opposed converting single family or duplex residences into rental units that violate zoning and building regulations.
